The Eternal Love of DesdemonaIn relationships, there cannot be two stubborn characters; someone has to go to the back every now and then. Desdemona's goal throughout this play was to be the strong woman we know, while still maintaining her unconditional love for Othello. At the beginning of Othello, the reader sees that Desdemona is a character willing to stand up for the things she believes in. Shakespeare writes: “My noble father, I perceive here a shared duty. It is to you that I am linked for life and education. My life and my education both teach me how to respect you: you are the lord of duty; until now your daughter. But here is my husband; and as many duties as my mother showed you, preferring you to her father, so much do I defy that I may profess for the sake of the Moor my lord (I.iii.181-189).
