Robert Nozick's HappinessMany theorists believe that happiness is the only important thing in people's lives and that all that should matter to a person is to be happy. The standard for evaluating a good life is the amount of happiness it contains. This open-mindedness of happiness, its generosity of spirit and its breadth of appreciation, are distorted and restricted by the statement claiming to be its greatest friend: only happiness counts, nothing else. Robert Nozick does not side with hedonistic utilitarianism, he gives several examples to show that there are other elements of reality towards which we can strive, even at the expense of pleasure.
