  • Essay / Only one can be chosen - 1038

Approximately 8 million tourists visited Hawaii in 2007, while a measly 82 million visited France in the same year. Kole, a 17-year-old boy, found this information while trying to decide where to go for his senior trip. He wanted to leave the cold little town of Rigby and travel to a different place that would pique his interest. The bright sun of the Hawaiian Islands caught her attention and wouldn't let it go, but that was the mindset of anyone who lived in the cold; it's obviously going to a warm place. However, on the other hand, Kole wanted to go to a place brimming with art and history; he wanted a place where he could feed his irresistible desire to learn. France was exactly the ideal place. The two places were like two magnets pulling him in opposite directions. It seemed impossible to choose, as both seemed to shoot with equal intensity. Several points emerged that would help him decide which one to choose: the climate, the hot spots of the tour, the expenses and the necessary preparation. Information based on these key points will determine the destination he chooses. When people think of Hawaii, bright sunshine and warm sandy beaches usually come to mind. This is probably because Hawaii is located very close to the equator and therefore the sun is usually very intense. In fact, the average temperature is around 80 degrees Fahrenheit year-round. Although the climate is generally very relaxing in Hawaii, there are occasional storms. The islands are subject to strong trade winds and sometimes experience storms. They don't experience major hurricanes very often, the last being in 1992. Small tropical storms, which bring large swells and heavy rain, are much more common. Because of all this, flash floods... middle of paper... and they were bound to win. The pressure in Kole's head was increasing and he could feel a headache coming on. What was supposed to be a very relaxing and joyful occasion for Kole was turning into a time that he didn't like and just wanted to forget. Eventually one of the magnets took over. The reason for the decision was very minimal and it took a while to finally be convincing, but he had decided. One of the destinations had finally conquered Kole's mind, and that's where he was heading. Works CitedAnne Depigny. Discover France. The new multimedia encyclopedia Grolier, 1993.
