  • Essay / Personal Statement - 957

The choices we make early in life have a huge impact on our future. I always knew I wanted to have a direct impact on people's lives. My personal experiences have had a big impact on my motivation to achieve all my dreams. In the future, I would like to influence another generation of students to soar towards achieving their dreams. Throughout school, I suffered from test anxiety. Taking standardized tests always stressed me out, and my scores were much lower than what my grades suggested I was capable of. Due to my low SAT scores, I was worried that I wouldn't be accepted into the college of my choice, but over time, I realized that my positive attributes can make up for my low test scores. Working with high school students, I would like to guide students with test anxiety to find ways to overcome their fears. In high school, I had a supportive parent who expected me to go to college, which provided me with a wealth of opportunities. However, many students do not have any support and may not know their options after high school. I would love to work with students with limited resources to find a way to go to college or have a successful career without a college degree. My first year of college, my parents separated, and my siblings and I all reacted differently: I focused my attention on school. , my sister focused on her friends and my brother stopped. Watching the three different reactions to the same event piqued my interest in the effects of divorce on the adolescent population. As a school counselor, I would like to work with people who are experiencing issues that are affecting the important relationships in their lives. I have many personal qualities that will help me achieve my goals. First, I am an active list...... middle of paper ...... in the effects of divorce after my parents separated during my first year of college and observed my siblings and my different reactions to the event: I focused on school, my sister on my friends and my brother stopped. Observing the three different reactions to the same event increased my desire to support students as they faced various stressful situations. I am interested in how different events can affect a student's life academically, socially, and psychologically, as well as the unique response to challenges encountered during adolescence. When people are faced with negative situations, many rebel through unproductive behaviors to escape the pain, but I would like to take students' negative attitudes and transform them into productive behaviors so that students are able to work together to make facing the different challenges of high school..
