  • Essay / What are the causes of racism in sports - 1195

In reference to racial segregation against African Americans, there were specific schools and hospitals for each group. Blacks and whites were not supposed to mix, because blacks were considered a worthless race that had to come to an end (Kwate 45). No sexual relations between blacks and whites were allowed, so the two races could not marry. Black people were considered inferior, both genetically and intellectually. Today, racial segregation continues to manifest itself in different forms, with sports being one of the major areas. In sport, racism has worked to the disadvantage of black people and races from less developed countries (Jarvie, 107). In fact, if we look at the most prestigious football clubs, there is white dominance although black people possess talents and skills equal to those of others.
