As I continue my journey through life, I always ask myself this question: “What is my true identity?” Am I a girl? A sister? A friend? A student? Then I realized that I am all of these. I am the reason they stopped sleeping and sat up all night nursing me, waiting for my temperature to drop. I am also the reason they fell asleep as soon as we arrived home because they were too tired from work, working hard to not only give what I need, but also what I want. They may think they are just my parents, but to me, they are my world. They have showered me with so much love and care that I can confidently tell them that I am not just their daughter, I am their little princess who they consider their life and their world. I am a sister because I am lucky enough to have 2 older sisters. I'm always told that I may not have a brother, but I have 2 sisters. When I was younger, I didn't understand what they meant. But as I grew up, I gradually understood what they were trying to tell me. I may not have a brother, but I have 2 sisters who will make fun of me. I may not have a brother, but I have 2 sisters who will scare anyone who makes fun of me. Do you see the irony? This is our relationship. To my friends, I may be a cheerful person who always smiles, laughs and jokes. To them, I am a strong, independent woman who does her shopping, gets her hair colored, gets a good manicure-pedicure session, all by herself. But honestly, I'm not. I cried when you chose her over me. I was hurt when you said "kaya mo na 'yan mag-isa". I felt alone when you told me how happy you were when you hung out with your other friends. I'm not the happy, strong, independent woman they think I know. I'm the most sensitive friend anyone could have, but that's just because I don't want to lose another friend. I am a student because I have teachers who always guide me. I can be considered the student who talks a lot in class, a student who seems not to pay attention, who falls asleep even when there are activities, who eats even when there is a teacher in front. But trust me when I say I'm listening. I pay attention to the way you write, the way you speak and the way you act every time you are in front. I may not seem to care and I'm not listening, but I remember when you told us about your father's death, when you talked about your love life, or when you told us told the story you were interested in teaching. The lessons you taught us may not be remembered, but you gave us something more important. You have given us some truly inspiring life lessons that will be useful for our future. I may not be your best student, but always remember that when you feel like no one is listening to you or interested in your stories, I am a student who..
