  • Essay / Subway's branding - 1131

“Eat fresh and $5 long”. When someone hears one, they immediately think of Subway. Subway is a huge sub sandwich franchise that has been around for over 45 years. It all started when founder Fred DeLuca wanted to pay for his college education. So he and his partner opened a sub-boutique that grew into one of the largest franchises in the world. They want to become the first fast food franchise in the world. This made Subway the most popular franchise and largest fast food chain in the world. Subway was founded in 1965 when Fred DeLuca's job at $1.25 an hour wasn't enough. He sought financial advice from Dr. Pete Buck, a family friend. When Pete found out how much Fred wanted to go to college, he thought he would help him. Pete told Fred to open a submarine sandwich shop and explained to him how it worked. Pete wrote him a check for a thousand dollars and became his partner. Later that year, they opened a submarine store in Wallingford, Connecticut called "Pete's Super Submarines." Fred hoped to acquire enough money to go to college. Pete's Super Submarines changed its name a few years later to Subway; it also began franchising in 1974. Fred DeLuca is still president of Subway after forty-five years and thirty-five thousand restaurants later. The franchise fee to get a Subway is fifteen thousand dollars and a twenty year franchise agreement. The total investment could be as little as $78,600, but it depends on location and other factors. It cost two thousand dollars for the property and four thousand five hundred for the equipment. The security system, shipping costs and exterior signs cost two thousand dollars each. The opening inventory cost four thousand dollars,...... middle of paper...... Subway also aims to make the customer happy by giving them so many sandwich options. Their vision is to be the number one fast food franchise in the world while providing fresh, delicious sandwiches and an exceptional experience. That's why they have so many different locations and styles. They did, which would explain their two slogans $5 Foot long and East Fresh. entrepreneur.com/franchises/subway/282839-0.html• http://www.subway.co.uk/business/franchise/financial_information.aspx• http://www.subway-franchisecost.com/tag/country• http://www.subway.com• http://www.franchisedirect.com/directory/subway/915/• http://investing.businessweek.com/research/stocks/private/snapshot.asp?privcapId=6463296
