  • Essay / Understanding the Complexities of Organ Donation

When I went to the doctor, I remember sitting there not thinking that I would need more than one surgery and that it would be an easy thing to resolve. My first doctor was more of a back doctor than a leg doctor, which is something no one seemed to tell me. After my first surgery I started falling all the time and we didn't know what was happening. We called the doctor and he told us to come back; then realize he is taking more x-rays. I remember he had the coldest hands and when he came to tell us the news, he could look us in the eye. He told us he was more of a spine doctor and didn't know what to do. We ended up seeing a sports doctor in Appleton who told us I was bone on bone and my meniscus was gone, which could have been provided if he hadn't cut my meniscus into a C shape but , first, I cut my femur.
