Summary The article I have chosen to focus on is titled Our 19th Century Curriculum by Andy Kessler. Basically, the newspaper denounces the current program used in high schools and especially in colleges. As the title suggests, Kessler calls it a 19th century program because he believes that the program that was used then is the same program used today. This is exactly what he sees as the problem. Kessler begins by pointing out that college graduates don't get jobs because they aren't taught the relevant information. “Look no further than the huge disconnect between what colleges produce and what employers expect of new hires. » This quote illustrates Kessler's idea that the program is not only outdated, but also fails to produce skilled workers in the industry. His proposed solution is to change the curriculum so that it can fit the modern era. Kessler shows that previously taught subjects are no longer necessary in today's jobs and environment and suggests that a new academic curriculum that reflects changes over the years can contribute to the uplift of our generation. The article states that the program should be more practical and realistic. He also asserts that technology, which is an important part of today's culture, should be integrated into our educational programs. I chose this topic because I remember countless times when my classmates questioned the relevance of the information they were being taught.
