  • Essay / Giving in a Marriage with Multiple Wives Analysis - 706

In reality, this is beneficial to the man because the more wives he has, the more work he can entrust to them and less responsibility for himself. For example, Harjo explains 'Liza's duties to "help me build this little farm" and Jennie's the possibility of "maybe...[we] will have children here then" (Oskison 238). There was no obligation between him and Jennie. Harjo should allow Jennie to marry another man. It is unfortunate especially for the second wife who never had the sole attention of her husband. It is also unfortunate that the first wife goes from being the sole wife to being one of two possible options. It is also wrong for a woman to voluntarily choose to be a second wife and choose to have two husbands at once. Women should be able to do what they want, just like men, what they want; taking two spouses is illegitimate. There must be one man and one woman per household. Wives in this situation must receive the attention of one man and have the advantage of running their own business.
