Essay / reflection of significant events - 872
During my life, from childhood to adulthood, I have experienced many significant events. These events not only impacted my life positively and negatively, but they also strengthened me mentally and challenged me to make better decisions in my life. The first significant event I experienced was the loss of my father at the age of nine. old. Losing a family member or friend can be devastating and overwhelming. The thoughts I had when I learned of my father's death were negative and insecure thoughts. I felt alone, abandoned and lost. Sometimes I dwelled on how my life was going to turn out since I didn't have my father to protect me and give me the advice I needed. I lost not only my father, but also my best friend. Depression gripped me throughout my last year of elementary school and my entire term of college. I was grieving, I felt like I was alone and no one could understand my pain. I have often wondered why this would happen to me as if no one else had lost a loved one. It was difficult to open up my emotions and talk to people about my problems, but as I began to open up, I quickly realized that having someone to talk to in that moment -this helped me to better understand my situation. I felt a burden lifted from me every time I talked about my feelings to others. Going through this difficult time in my life not only made me stronger, but it helped me learn that death is something we will all experience one day. The next big event I faced in my life was becoming a mother. I gave birth to my son when I was 20 years old. The challenges I faced in becoming a mother were not easy. I have had issues with co-parenting my son and with his father. The man I had a child with was very immature, a... middle of paper......ard in life, it can still be hurtful to continually hear people talk about the death of friends and relatives, and parents are left alone to raise their children; because I will bring back my old wounds and pain. I hope I can find support by sharing my testimony to help them overcome their injury. Everyone will face significant challenges and events throughout their lives. Some people will overcome them and others will let their problems rule them. If we can recognize our problems and look for a way to overcome them, we will allow ourselves to grow and move forward in life. The challenges I have faced have been difficult and I believe I will be an asset in people's lives because I can relate to some of the issues they are facing today. With my knowledge and training in social work, I believe I will be equipped to help redirect people's lives toward positive outcomes..
