Essay / Assault on Human Beings - 2077
In cities, suburbs and even small towns, people fear and worry that violence has permeated the social fabric of their communities and degraded the quality of their life (Albert J. Reiss). There is aggression every day and it can manifest itself in all forms. Wherever you go, there will be some form of aggression. As I did research, I learned new things about psychological aggression and its effects on people. The Milgram experiment can show you how psychology affects human nature on aggression. This experiment showed how a person who was not near the learner shocked them more than if they could see them. In Curiosity, a documentary, there was an episode called "How Bad Are You?" ” which shows exactly what Yale University psychologist Stanley Milgram did in his experiment (Roth). The only thing the documentary did that wasn't in the original experience was they added an extra step. The additional step was another teacher, who was an actor just like the learner, who at some point would resign and step aside and the other teacher would have to take over. This showed that people influence each other by psychologically attacking others (Roth). Even decades later, both experiments had the same results. The documentary also showed how our own psychological genes have an effect on our aggression. He goes on to show that a person's DNA has a gene that indicates how psychologically aggressive, in other words psychopathic, they may be (Roth). In a sample of 991 parents in 1995, at the age of 2 years, 90% of them reported having used one or more forms of psychological aggression within 12 months, with 98% at the age of 5 years. The most used psychological aggression which...... middle of paper ......ely being aggressive towards others (Patterson et al., 1967 cited in Myers). In conclusion, psychological aggression affects the behaviors of all people. Some people are more prone to it than others. There are suggestions that can help people overcome aggression, but with the complexity of the causes of aggression and the difficulty of controlling them (Myers, 2012). Works Cited Albert J.
