Essay / Should comprehensive sex education be allowed in the...
So sex is sex; Memphis City School Systems should provide full details and information regarding this. There has been a huge controversy over whether or not comprehensive sexuality education should be allowed in school systems. Some laws, such as the Tennessee Sex Education Law and Policy, require schools to include comprehensive sex education in their curriculum. Regardless of which school system teaches abstinence, today's generation will still choose to participate in sex. Why deny them all the facts and information that will help them live healthy, productive lives? Comprehensive sex education may make parents nervous about what their child is learning, but it will reduce unintended teen pregnancies, the spread of sexually transmitted diseases and other sexuality-related problems. Before comprehensive sex education is presented to students, it is important that Memphians become familiar with the meaning and knowledge of what it is. The term sex education is a word or phrase used to explain human sexual anatomy, the reproductive system, sexual intercourse, attitudes and behaviors, and other issues related to sexuality (“Sex”). When defining sex education in dealing with adolescents, it basically means informing them about all the facts and issues related to sex. There are also other terms associated with sex education that students will need to know. Abstaining from any type of sexual intercourse or foreplay, for that matter, is called abstinence. Most parents support abstinence-only programs being taught in the school system. This type of program censors facts about contraceptives and condoms to stop the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. Unmarried adolescents...... middle of paper ...... diseases caused and correction of other problems related to sexuality. This has been a problem in Memphis for years because parents are very hesitant about their child learning about gender, the effectiveness of the course, and the student's personal issues such as maturity level, shyness, etc. Memphis whether to mandate comprehensive sex education in schools is still up for debate. The Memphis community needs to come together and help solve this problem with provision groups, meetings, maintaining the out-of-school abstinence-only program, and talking with the Board of Directors of the Office of Maternal Health and infantile. Otherwise, STDs, STIs and teenage pregnancy rates will continue to slowly increase. Students deserve to know why they should stay abstinent, i.e. learn about STDs, condoms, pregnancies, etc., otherwise they will be going the wrong way on their own..
