  • Essay / The Causes and Effects of Pressure on Students to Achieve...

Are the world's new norms and expectations for adolescents really creating monsters? The stress that students face today between balancing school, homework, extracurricular activities, social life, sleep and a healthy lifestyle is considered a health epidemic (Palmer, 2005). . Students are obsessed with getting the grades expected of them to please those who push them and, in turn, they lose sleep and abandon other aspects of their lives that are important to them , such as time spent with friends and family and activities that are important to them. they appreciate it. The stress they experience from pressures from parents, teachers, colleges, and peers has many physical and mental effects on every student, some more harmful than others. The extreme pressure placed on students to achieve perfect grades in order to be accepted into a college has diminished the concept of actual learning and left in its place the art of "tweaking the system" for success (Palmer , 2005). There are many ways that should be implemented to reduce student stress so that they can thrive because, without them, school systems will only create generations of stressed, materialistic and poorly educated students ( Palmer, 2005). multiple causes when it comes to stressed students. First consider where the pressure on students to get good grades comes from. Parents and teachers are usually the main suspects. Parents want to see their children succeed in everything they do and grades are no different. Some students view a low grade as a failure to their parents because their parents believe in them so much (Weissbourd, 2011). Teachers have many reasons why they want to see their school in the middle of paper......ke something that students can look back on and think that it was a significant time when they learned a lot about life. instead of a time when they thought they were going to collapse because they got a low score on a test. School should be a time where they can make mistakes in a safe environment in which they can learn, not a place where they are petrified of making a mistake for fear of retaliation on their grades. It's time to change the school system to prevent future students from going crazy with stress and to let them know that there is more to this world than just a grade card and that in the long run it only amounts to 'a very small fraction of life. files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/ED536513.pdfhttp://www.ascd.org/publications/educational-leadership/may11/vol68/num08/The-Overpressiond-Student.aspxhttp://news.stanford.edu/ news/2005/february23/cheat-022305.html
