  • Essay / Rage to be king: William, king of England - 1002

Rage to be king, William would do whatever it took to become king of England. William would go to war and kill other men to gain greater power. William's army killed William's enemy Harold so that he would become king. After Harold's death, the throne was wide open to William. By the end of his life, William had achieved what he desired most: to become king. In 1035, William became heir following the death of his father. William was born around 1028 in Falaise, Normandy. He was the son of Robert I, Duke of Normandy, who died in 1035 (BBC). His mother was a woman called Herleva who was a tanner (“William I”). William hated it when people disrespected his mother (Cohen). His uncle was regent at the time and also helped William prepare for the inheritance. In 1042, William took more control of his decisions. From 1046 to 1055, William faced a series of baronial rebellions (BBC). Therefore, ever since William was a young boy, he was destined to be a king or ruler. Even with the power William had, no one knew he was still a caring man. William married Mathilde, daughter of Count Baldwin of Flanders (BBC). William and Mathilde had nine children. They had four male offspring and five female offspring, all within sixteen years (Simkin). The sad thing about William's marriage to Matilda is that she wanted nothing to do with him. When Matlida died in 1083, William fell into a deep depression because he loved and cared for her so much (Cohen). William was furious at becoming the king of England. All he wanted was to be king or ruler. In 1065, King Edward of England fell ill. Later, on January 5, 1066, King Edward died. Who would be the next king was the question... middle of paper ...... because of William, people probably wouldn't speak as well and wouldn't be able to communicate. William, in the end, flees on his journey to become king. He knew what he wanted to do and what he had to do to get what he wanted. He had to eliminate his competitors. That's exactly what he did. Conquering people, fears, journeys, things you have decided on, you will get the result the person wants. Works Cited Cohen, Jennie. “10 Things You Didn’t Know About William the Conqueror.” History.
