However, Red Dawson, parents and other players exaggerated the emotions when describing the reintroduction of the Marshall football program after the 1970 plane crash. On November 14, 1970, a horrific event destroyed the heart many people and led the nation to support Marshall University. According to the plane crash records, foggy weather awaited them. The pilots of the plane therefore did not see the landing strip and crashed a few kilometers before the tarmac. The fire and explosion resulting from the accident spiraled out of control and nothing could save the football team and its sponsors.
