Essay / The Haitian Revolution - 1101
For my research paper, I decided to do the Haitian Revolution because that was the topic that was assigned for my group presentation. For this research paper, I found an article on the Broward Library webpage titled "Opposing Viewpoints" and the title of the article was "The Problem of Slavery in the Age of Emancipation ” where it was stated that the Haitian Revolution began between 1791 and 1804 and had an impact on a large number of people. variety of locations from Brazil to the United States. The author of this article was named David Brion Davis, and in this article he explains that he had a third part in the trilogy. Davis begins his article with the word “animalization” and also how his masters would treat him like another slave. The word animalization could really be used to explain how slaves were treated, raped and beaten as if they were animals. In another place, Davis explained the proposal to send African Americans to Africa must have been harsh on the population, knowing that if the law didn't want them there, they could simply be kicked out without saying a word , otherwise they would. were killed in front of their children and family members. Imagining this could make anyone cry when seeing the bodies of poor Africans who just wanted to have freedom. Another article I also found was by the same author David Brion Smith called "Last Of A Searing Trilogy" where he talks about the problem of slavery and it being a "moral perception" because knowing this, most people will not judge slavery as a kind of choice. and choose to be forced instead. Many historians have wondered whether the Haitian Revolution could have lasted for more years, but it would have been very difficult to defeat after so many years and without any beneficial support. The main problem ... middle of paper ...... died trying. Throughout the Revolution there were challenges but in the end Haitians succeeded with great effort and courage. Another event would be when Napoleon would develop a West Indian policy. After the end of the Haitian Revolution, yellow fever killed many slaves. There were about 20 thousand mainly French whites in Saint Domingue and they were divided into two groups the Planters and the Petits Blancs. Basically the way the groups were divided was according to strength, the planters were stronger and did better at work and the Little Whites were more interested in soft things like painting and art. Finally, I would like to talk about the ups and downs of the Haitian Revolution and what happened. do I mean by highs and lows, that the highs are the rewards, freedom from slavery, the different treats the slaves received for their efforts and happiness and the lows.
