The self-evolution and alteration of Biff into Biff Lowman with whom the play ends, was brought about by a series of trials, personal growth and inner conflicts encountered in the trials of following one's heart, regardless of the judgments of one's family or civilization as a whole. To truly understand Biff Lowman, it is important to analyze Biff at the beginning of the story and Biff after the peak of his existence leading to his downward spiral and realization of the harsh realities that Earth has to offer. To start at the beginning, we must first define what “beginning” is. Is this the start of a story? Or is this the beginning of character representation in the youngest sense of the term? For the sake of categorization, we will define the beginning as the flashbacks presented throughout the play to Willie's moments of distress and confusion. Biff loved his father. He asked her for advice, inspiration and guidance. All his actions in the past were done purely out of love for his father. Biff wanted to impress his father and demand satisfaction from him whenever possible....
