Essay / Hurting People Hurting People by Dr. Sandra Wilson - 1405
Dr. Sandra Wilson (2001) gave an excellent overview of why people do what they do in her book “Hurt People Hurt People”. As a correctional case manager for the North Carolina Women's Correctional Facility, I have heard many stories of injured women who injured others and therefore landed in prison. I have often thought that if this person had received therapy or counseling earlier in their life, it is possible that this situation would never have happened. AffectWilson explains that we suffer from the effects of temporal systems; family, friends, social systems and churches. From the fourth week's lecture, we learned that because we live in time systems, we are influenced by others in our value systems, our behaviors, and how we handle difficult situations. Dr. Wilson discussed the “power of invisible wounds” and “invisible wound issues” through these time systems in which we develop our core belief and value system. We experience pain both internally and externally and these feelings must be brought to light for God to restore us. How we react in certain situations is directly influenced by what we learned from the people most important to us during our youth. . We learn that our situation is to some extent worse than those around us, even though this may not be true. Wilson describes this as a “binding shame.” In other words, children grow up in conflict, learn to behave badly, and accept abuse from other family members thinking that such behavior is okay. Emotional wounds are the result of interaction with other family members who are themselves hurt and hurt individuals. Wilson suggests that in reality we are all hurt people who have hurt other people...... middle of paper ...... about , loyalty to God and family, love and corrections from my father . Because I considered him a real man and a godly man, I married a man like my father. It is sad to know that others will never have this type of relationship with a natural man, but God who is the “loving father” is able to be all. 2 John (KJV) 1:3-4, 9 “Grace be to you, mercy and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and in love I have greatly rejoiced that I have found your children. walking in the truth, for we have received a commandment from the Father. Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. , everyone has the opportunity to have a perfect model by receiving Jesus Christ as their personal savior..
