This immediately puts a tremendous amount of pressure on a child of that culture. Children are convinced that everything they do is overseen by the Lord; which keeps a list of all the good and bad deeds done by children. This is something that is instilled in all children. We go to mass every Sunday. There are three sides to a child growing up in Mexican-American culture. The first is that a child is baptized around 8 months of age. It is common for the first male child born to be named after his father. The purpose of baptism is to welcome the child into the Catholic religion. The children then follow catechism classes in order to be able to make their first communion. After First Communion, children go to school to do their Confirmation. In our culture, these three are necessary to one day be able to marry through the Catholic Church. Children are taught that marriage is between a man and a woman only, and that same-sex relations are against the Roman Catholic religion. Our religious beliefs greatly affect who you are as a person. As previously stated, we are taught that marriage is only between a man and a woman. If a person in our culture is in a homosexual relationship, they are going against God's word and securing a place in
