Essay / Impact of the economy on suicide - 1263
Do economic classes affect the percentage of suicide rates? All kinds of people, rich and poor, commit suicide, but suicide and suicide prevention are growing. Each year, approximately 4,600 young people lose their lives to suicide (Center for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2014). So what help is the country offering? There are many programs and treatments available to help those who have resorted to suicide or have considered suicide. Specialized programs have been created, but not all are accessible. Money problems make it difficult for some to access treatment. Economic class is an important factor in the success rates of suicidal adolescents who receive treatment and those who do not. For young people aged 1,024, suicide is the third leading cause of death (CDC, 2014). Suicide is preventable, but we need to be aware of its causes, treatments and solutions. Being aware is essential. To prevent suicide, people need to have knowledge and understanding. It is best to be informed about the signs, causes and forms of suicide. Signs of suicide can be very difficult to detect; the signs can be subtle. The causes of suicide can originate at home, but they also occur at school. Bullying, stress, low self-esteem, and abuse are all major factors in suicide (CDC, 2014; Suicide Awareness Voices of Education [SAVE], 2014). As students, young people have many chances and opportunities to prevent or cause suicide. . People are pushed beyond their limits every day. Among all high school students, seven percent have attempted suicide, meaning they were not successful (Bullying Statistics, n.d.). Maybe they had someone trying to help them. Knowing the facts and being aware of them makes a difference. Just one person could make the difference between life and death. T...... middle of paper ......3).
