    Different types of habits are one of the main elements in sculpting and defining the character of an individual. Through our habits, others have the ability to better understand who the person really is and what they are really like. In today's world, many individuals strive to be successful and effective in their own society. With this, they must work to shape themselves by acquiring certain qualities and characteristics. Proactivity is an essential element that greatly influences the decisions we make as individuals in life. Being proactive is defined as a habit where you have to take initiative and become responsible. Proactive people tend to choose their responses and actions regardless of their environment. They are generally very optimistic and determined to make things happen. This type of habit ultimately leads to a result the person is happy with. Covey suggests that people who end up in good professions are those who are proactive. These people take the initiative to do whatever they can to successfully accomplish their job. As for me, during my senior year of high school, the class of 2011 suffered so much academically that the country became unstable due to violent protests. This resulted in school being missed for weeks due to the severity of the situation. Unfortunately, the IB exams were only a few months away and students needed to be prepared. Despite the instability of my environment, I began to take full initiative and responsibility in my studies by seeking other means of assistance in order to obtain the degree for which I worked diligently. To recap, Covey suggests that there is a particular set of habits that individuals must develop throughout their lives in order to become highly effective people. Being proactive, putting things first, seeking first to understand, then to be understood, creating synergy, and sharpening the saw are five of the seven fundamental habits Covey discusses in his book. I chose these five habits because I found that they played an important role in my past experiences. I hope I can incorporate them in the future, whether in work or with the people around me. After reading this intriguing and informative book, I learned that every habit leads to something crucial. We hope that these valuable habits will help make me a successful person in the future..
