For most freelance writers, success comes with hard work, but above all there are five specific things freelance writers need to do. Being able to network, setting a valid pay rate and being able to communicate, all to produce credibility with clients. I will briefly touch on these topics. Communication is necessary with your client, some are not as eloquent as you. By knowing what questions to ask, you can put them to rest. Give them what they want, whether your project costs forty-five dollars or a thousand dollars. Keep your client engaged and let them know your progress. Keep a newsletter letting them know when you're taking classes, so your clients are well informed of your willingness to continue learning and keeping your skills current. Always be nice, smile and make eye contact when meeting with your clients, some clients are online only. These customers are harder to please, it's harder to establish that communication. But be diligent, don't be afraid to ask questions. Set your limits, while maintaining a pleasant attitude. It can be really frustrating to write for someone you don't know in person. Don't be afraid to do a little verbal fishing when necessary. Write and rewrite until your client is happy. Often what you originally wrote will not be the final copy. But it's about making the customer happy and having a great product. The product is the document or speech you write for a client. But it's not just that, it's how you present yourself. You will have to sell yourself [a little] to the client, this does not mean coming across as boastful or arrogant. Be yourself, be honest and don't complain! Your colleague will probably enjoy the work and the client would like to finally find someone who could understand them better. Punctuation and spelling are essential, of course, the best writers can't always spell every word, and some miss it, but that should be the exception. Another way to build your credibility is to be professional in your writing, even after a relationship is established. Be quick, just like any other career or job. Now go out and have fun. Because the main thing is that you have to love and adore writing. Trust me, even the most mundane topics should come alive for your readers.
