  • Essay / The Importance of Leadership - 1724

IntroductionLeadership has been defined in many different ways with many different functions. I define it as a person or organization guiding or directing a group toward a common goal or idea. This may seem simple, but I think it can be difficult in today's modern and competitive environment. Leadership can be broken down into traits and principles that define not only a person, a business, a place, but even an organization. These traits include self-confidence, ambition, determination and adaptability to change. I chose these traits because I believe they not only help define a leader, but also support building a strong vision. Building this strong vision is one of the many ways to become a great leader as a manager in corporate America today. In this article, I will discuss what leadership is. I will give the reader an overview of the skills; knowledge and relationships necessary for good leadership. I will also discuss leadership versus management; the differences between leadership and management; the pros and cons of good leadership; types of leadership; and finally my own life experiences in leadership and becoming a leader. I will put the reader in a position to gain knowledge on what it takes to become a great leader as a manager in corporate America today. LeadershipLeadership is about having a vision. Having a vision is empowering and, most importantly, I believe it brings useful change within a business or organization. Peter Drucker said that “management is doing things right; leadership does the right things.” Great leaders possess dazzling social intelligence, a thirst for change and above all a vision that allows them to set their sights on...... middle of paper ...... solid knowledge base and also believe in what their leader. Competence (or competence) is an individual's ability to perform a job correctly. Leadership skills such as change management, risk taking, innovation, and even improved business skills all contribute to good leadership. Using the competency approach also helps identify, develop and manage great leaders. Managing change for a great leader allows the leader to bring change internally and confront it head on. This allows the leader to accept the change and contribute to the new strategy. Through this, the leader can implement employee programs to boost morale and show employees how much they are appreciated while creating new positions and allowing the integration of cooperation between different departments.Personal experienceTo on more than one occasion, I had the opportunity to be a manager.
