Victor avoids all association with his family and many others during the time he develops the creature, and interacts only with professors from his time in Ingolstadt. The theme of association with others goes hand in hand with the theme of isolation, with Victor seeming to prefer to be alone. Many compare the creature to Victor and how similar they are, but the creature longs to be a part of society and to be loved by others or a family. The opposition is Victor's inability to form a relationship with those who seek a relationship with him, while the creature is prevented from associating with anyone from the outside world due to his appearance. Shelley connects the theme of association with others to isolation and family, as most of the people Victor hides from are his family. The importance of associating or communicating with others for Victor is to reduce the risk of him getting sick when isolated.
