Essay / Teen Drivers Essay - 943
The world works in different ways. High school students work in different ways. Being a teen driver myself, I believe that eligibility for a driver's license should be based not only on driving knowledge and safety, but also on work ethic. Teenage drivers are all stereotyped into a category of dangerous drivers because some of the ignorant children who have the privilege of driving also have the maturity of a child. Society places all teenagers in the same stereotype when the problem only affects the less intelligent teenagers. An F in a high school class is completely unacceptable and should be treated as such. Being a high school student, I can honestly say that the rigor of classes is an outrageous excuse for a poor grade in school, the reason for poor results is utter laziness and lack of apathy. If playing sports or any other extracurricular activity is considered privileged, then having a driver's license is also a privilege. (Thesis) I believe that students who fail their high school courses should have their driver's license revoked. Driving is a privilege and if a person is found to be irresponsible by not following their school's requirements, they should not be able to drive. They show that they will not be able to fend for themselves on the road. Due to irresponsible teen drivers, car accidents are the leading cause of death among young people. There are many reasons why teenagers do not do well in school. Peer pressure is one of the most important factors in teenagers' lives. Following trends allows us to make friends, then teenagers leave comfort aside and turn to the latest fashions. Ultimately all they want is to be able to fit in, look cool, be pretty, and be pop... middle of paper ... extracurricular activities require students to have a certain average, so this should be true for a life-threatening license. These are things that should be given more responsibility and accountability. (Backup) The other half of the problem is that teenagers lose all their incentives. Teenagers are not allowed to play on a sports team or participate in extracurricular activities. Teenagers who cannot participate in any positive activities will be more involved in negative peer pressure. (Backup) Teenagers who drive while failing grades should have their driver's licenses revoked because they don't seem to understand that driving is a dangerous act. and that the rules of the class are reflected on the road. Incentives need to be put in place, otherwise students will simply continue to drive without taking responsibility for not only their future but also their life on the road..
