Essay / Surprise! Different conditions equal different perspectives
Tambudzai, the main character of Nervous Conditions, is considered the "hero" or "possessor" of the story. How is this accomplished besides presenting a first-person experience? How can you do anything other than make the character better by comparison? Nyasha becomes Tambu's support, strengthening Tambu, but not herself. Tambu admits that “Nyasha wouldn’t be good for her” (103). Nyasha is depicted as negative, even to Tambu, in an attempt to further impress the image of the hero/anti-hero relationship. The following, to put their relationship in some context, will analyze Nyasha, in relation to Tambu, and their relationships across their culture, class and upbringing. Tambu, on the other hand, had several siblings, parents and family who lived close enough that they had to be taken into account when...... middle of paper...... they received high grades, but they took a different look at their grades. While Tambu was excited and happy that her hard work had paid off, Nyasha continued to put in minimal effort and adopted an attitude of knowing more than others. This explains her conflict with Tambu over school work, it's not important to her because it doesn't do anything for her. Although Tambu and Nyasha are at a similar crossroads at this particular moment in history, they had completely different paths that led to this. indicate. Their circumstances may be similar, but their perspectives are different. Nyasha adapted to her situation in a way that caused her to be the opposite of Tambu, or at least as opposite as possible to arrive in the same situation. Tambu and Nyasha are okay counterparts, fighting for the title of hero, but Tambu wins, because she is in first person..
