    They continued to walkout for two more days. The third walkout took place on March 6, when 2,700 students decided to walk out. These students carried leaflets about education reform. That day, it was Roosevelt High School that withdrew. The school principal locked the gate to prevent students from leaving the school, but that didn't stop them. The students decided to cross the fence. Once this happened, the police took matters into their own hands and beat the students who jumped the fence. The third walkout took place on March 8. This time, it was Belmont High School’s turn. According to Juan Javier Inda, he writes: “At Belmont High School, on Thursday, March 8, the students tried to leave, but found their school invaded by the police.” Police officers wearing helmets and carrying night sticks moved through school hallways, grabbing students and taking them either to the principal's office or to jail. After thousands of students left, East Los Angeles' five major schools, along with Lincoln and Jefferson, held a 9 a.m. rally in Hazard.
