Mr. And Mrs. Bhamra are very strict parents. They put a lot of pressure on their daughter's life. Jess' mother, Mrs. Bhamra, is interested in tradition, culture and maintaining a good reputation. Whereas Mrs. Bhamra never approved of Jess playing football, and never stopped disapproving of her. Mrs. Bhamra's behaviors cause Jess to play soccer more and more, because Jess never wants to be like her mother or sister. At the end of the film, just like Paula (Jules' mother), she begins to accept the fact that all Jess wants to do and that is the only thing that will make Jess happy. At the end of the film, she says, "At least I taught him a complete Indian dinner, the rest is up to God." His father, Mr. Bhamra, was a bit of a closed book, at the beginning of the film he wasn't very important. At first, he didn't want Jess to play soccer with the boys in the park, or with the girls on the good soccer team, not just because of Mrs. Bhamra's reasons; but because he didn't want Jess to be hurt the same way he was. He is still stuck in the past and he needs to open his eyes to the modern world, where everything is changing and religion and race can be accepted in this day and age. He understands that Jess is a fighter, a strong and determined girl. He himself changes in some way and by the end of the film Mr. Bhamra has become proud of his
