And now I get to the root of the problem, the reason I kept a journal: I don't have a real friend. Anne Frank reveals that she wants her diary to be a friend to her unlike her other friends, she sometimes feels isolated and alone, and wants her diary to be someone she can talk to openly and honestly about everything. So she names her diary “Kitty” and calls it her friend. Anne was often emotional and insecure.
