  • Essay / Nursing Case Study: Patient-Centered Care - 718

The author believes that patient-centered care cannot be compromised due to a patient's socioeconomic status. Nurses are required to follow a strict code of ethics, established by the American Nurses Association (ANA), as well as policies established by the employer. The first provision of the ANA Code of Ethics states that "the nurse, in all professional relationships, practices with compassion and respect for the inherent dignity, worth, and uniqueness of each individual, unrestricted by considerations social or economic status, personal attributes, or the nature of health problems” (ANA, 2011). Nurses are expected to uphold the code of ethics throughout their practice, unlike Helen who openly expresses her personal beliefs.
