  • Essay / Significance: The history of astronomy is important

These actually mean ante meridiem and post meridiem. Which, because of our appreciation of history, has a greater impact on every person of our time. When we study the constellations, an example would be "Andromeda, the chained girl from Greek mythology or Perseus, the demigod who saved her." (Rosenburg, 2012) This is in my opinion a perfect example of the importance of history, because for some people they are just names, but for us we really understand that they are quite significant because of history. Also, according to David Leverington, “astronomy is the oldest and most fundamental science. It attempts to explain not only what the Universe is today and how it works, but also how it began, how it has evolved until today, and how it will develop in the future. (Leverington, 1995) Without the appreciation of the history of astronomy, I believe we would not have technological advances to advance our scientific knowledge.
