Essay / The Importance of Sex Education - 1028
Importance of Sex Education Abortion at the age of sixteen is not an uncommon procedure in today's society. AAAAA is a sixteen year old girl who has already had an abortion. She had just finished her sophomore year of high school when this happened. This girl had her life together when it came to academics because she was at the top of her class and wanted to continue her education to a college degree. As soon as she found out she was pregnant, she knew everything would be put on hold. She couldn't give the baby the life he deserves. So that's what made her decide to have an abortion, but all of this could have been avoided if she and her partner had used effective birth control methods or sex education knowledge. As the number of teenage pregnancies increases in high school, teachers should pay more attention to sex education in their curricula. Because sex is so prevalent in our society today, the problem needs to be addressed instead of just ignored. Murray states, “Students at all levels should be encouraged to explore topics that are outside their vocation” (95). That being said, it seems that this topic is often overlooked in the school process. Public schools should seriously consider teaching their students a curriculum that encourages them to remain abstinent, but also teaches them how to protect themselves if they choose to become sexually active. As children grow, they gain knowledge on a variety of topics to prepare them. for the future. Holt explains: “As we help children experience and learn about the world, we bring more people into schools” (75). This example is so imp...... middle of paper ...... the information was no longer made available to them. That being said, it is essential that young adults are made aware of the importance of sex education. Work Cited Barry, Lynda. “The Sanctuary of School,” The Blair Reader. Ed. Laurie G.
