Eating DisordersMany people think they know everything about eating disorders. They think they already know everything they need to know about themselves until your child, your friend or someone dear to you does; you don't have to worry about them. Well, how are you supposed to know when someone you love and care about has it if you don't even know the basics of eating disorders? Most of the time, the person suffering from an eating disorder was just trying to lose a few pounds. However, the goal that was set turns into something more than a few pounds and that person may go through extremes to try to achieve the perfect body that they have in mind. But the perfect body they have in mind isn't perfect, not even close. It's a pure illusion in which teenagers are made to believe that she is the definition of beauty. Did you know that in 2010/2011, official statistics indicate that more than 6,500 children and adolescents were treated in hospitals for eating disorders, such as anorexia nervosa? Anorexia is probably the best known and most common eating disorder, along with bulimia. Anorexia is an eating disorder that causes people to lose far more weight than would be healthy for their age or size. People with it may be afraid of gaining weight and exercising too much, dieting, skipping meals, or simply not eating at all to lose weight. Bulimia is most often associated with anorexia because the person suffering from it is also trying to lose a lot of weight not only by starving but also by purging. Most of the time the person eats too much because their body is starving and then they will most likely feel guilty and most of the time this leads them to throw...... middle of paper.... ...I remember telling myself that I had to become thinner, otherwise everyone would hate me and I would never have any friends again; This is when I began to develop many eating disorders, such as anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder. I never stopped to think about what people actually liked about me. Why were my friends my friends in the first place? That's when I realized that the reason people loved me wasn't because of my weight or the way my body looked, but because of who I was. was. It was because I had a nice personality and was someone they could talk to and spend time with, it never had to do with my weight; it was all in my head. This is what I want teenagers to realize; no one will care about your weight or how thin your body is, only you do. Ultimately, as long as you are healthy and nourished, you should be happy just as you are..
