However, some injuries leave a mark or can even leave someone paralyzed; therefore, he may never recover from this injury. In my opinion, the methodology used to address mental health issues should focus more on the individual's story and how they are affected. Mental health is not like cancer or STDs where everyone diagnosed has similar symptoms. Each individual has a unique wound inside their brain and the only way to heal it is to find the occasional mechanism and try to "distract its pain" or remove it from existence altogether. When I hurt myself, I try to hurt something else, so I pinch myself. My mind can't focus on two pains at once, so I try to get the brain to focus on my pinch rather than a collision or stump. The mind must be distracted from this occasional mechanism and the only way to find out what it really is is to conduct interviews.
