    In Hopkin's poem Carrion Comfort, a terrible sonnet, Hopkins begins to question God. This poem was written after Hopkins emerged from intense depression and misery. He asks God why he would put him through this period of suffering. However, throughout the poem he also undertakes reflection and comes to believe, in the final lines of the poem, that God put him through this for his own good. Like Carrion Comfort, the second part of The Outsider focuses on a reflection on Meursault's actions while he is sentenced to death. In chapter 5 in particular, he reflects on how his experiences have shaped him and how his loyalty to his beliefs in times of adversity has led him to feel accepted by his own character. Through reflection, Meursault feels like he belongs, realizing that the world, just like him, has a gentle indifference. But how do they connect?
