  • Essay / Essay of Nyepi in Bali - 871

It is the day when families come together to ask each other for forgiveness. Then they walk around their neighborhood greeting and welcoming people in the New Year. They also visit their parents and friends to share their happiness. Hindus are happy and blessed that they have achieved self-control during Nyepi. Some people prefer to read the lontar (manuscript) and others sing sacred songs. Activities are gradually returning to normal. On this day, shops owned by Balinese people are closed while shops owned by international traders are open. Besides, what is interesting about this day is the Pasar Maju Langu on the beach. Here, vendors sell goods and other merchandise to people on the beach until midnight. Retailers have their own style of decorating their stands so that people are interested in buying their products. Most of them also sell fireworks to Hindus to celebrate the New Year. With the new atmosphere, the new year begins with a clean and pure atmosphere.
