The elderly lady pointing to the menu item on the board above the cashier's head, while saying she would like a number three. The little girl points excitedly as she shouts that she wants the chocolate donut with sprinkles. Even the oldest gentleman, proudly wearing his veteran's hat, uses his hands to show that he wants a large coffee. As well as the young woman behind the cash register who points to her left saying that the toilets are around the corner. It's amazing how nonverbal communication plays such an important role in simple everyday activities. We do it most of the time without being aware of it, because it is second nature to us. We share our thoughts and feelings with facial expressions and often feel the need to support our words with gestures to better convey the point we are trying to make. Doing this study also made me aware of the nonverbal signals I send as well. I'm grateful now that I'm aware of these things I can have more control over the message I want to send
