    A common cause of loneliness in aging adults is hearing loss. According to the Hearing Loss Association of America, one-third of older adults experience some level of adult-onset hearing loss, or presbycusis (Hearing Loss Association of America). Hearing loss can be a problem for older adults because it significantly impairs their ability to communicate with others. The embarrassment and frustration that comes with impaired communication can lead to isolation and avoidance of using their hearing at all. Other people with presbycusis may resort to other unhealthy behaviors, such as blaming others for their hearing loss or bluffing, pretending they can hear people when in reality they can't. Whether or not they exhibit any of these behaviors, hearing loss is usually accompanied by feelings of social disconnection and loneliness. Researchers have found that hearing aids are the best solution for people with presbycusis, and studies indicate that using hearing aids reduces feelings of loneliness in people with adult-onset hearing loss (Ciorba , Bianchini, Pelucchi and Pastore,
