Jackie Robinson is one of the most famous people who ever lived. From football to basketball to track and field to baseball, he could do it all; one of the greatest athletes of all time. Jackie Robinson played in Major League Baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Robinson was a hero both sportingly and socially; he was treated terribly, but he had the courage to continue and do what he loves most: baseball. Jackie Robinson had an interesting youth. He was born in Cairo, Georgia but later moved to Pasadena, California. His real name was Jack Roosevelt Robinson. Jackie's father was a sharecropper but left the family when Jackie was only 6 months old. Her mother's occupation was cleaning and doing household chores for other white families. Jackie's parents were named Mallie and Jerry. Jackie had four older siblings; their names were Edgar, Frank, Mack and Willa Mae Robinson. (Classroom) When Jackie was in high school, he joined a street gang. Jackie played many sports in high school and then went to junior college. After Jr. College, he attended UCLA and played football, basketball, track and field, and baseball. He was the first four-letter award winner at this school. Right before he graduated, he left. After leaving, he moved to Honolulu, Hawaii and began playing semi-professional soccer. After that, he was drafted into the army and worked in the US Army branch. He was in the army for 2 years; from 1942 to 1944. His rank was that of second lieutenant. After serving his service, he really took baseball seriously.
