  • Essay / Analysis of King Lear Edmund - 643

In the play “King Lear” he describes how a king was at the peak of his reign and his kingdom was so powerful, but soon everything went wrong, his kingdom with the King Lear himself collapsed because of betrayal and lies. People usually think that lying is the easiest way to get out of trouble, but for King Lear, it went wrong. He lost his kingdom, his lands and his family. Some of this was done by him, but the only person who really wanted to get rid of him was Edmund. From the beginning, Edmund would show how he wants to be more than what he was born to be. Edmund was Edgar's illegitimate half-brother and wanted to get Glouscter's attention, which ultimately led to Edmund wanting more of Glouscter's place in the kingdom. Edmund is a type of person who will do whatever it takes to get what he wants. What Edmund did shows that he is indeed a deceptive character. He planted evidence on himself, so it appears that Edgar is trying to murder Glouscter when in reality it is Edmund who is framing him. He sets this all up to make Edgar look like the bad guy so that Edmund looks like the good guy in Gloucester's eyes. Edmund has a lot of trouble making Edgar believe that he is still on his side. One thing you can learn from William Shakespeare is that Edmund cannot be trusted and looks to his family to get what he wants for himself. In the eyes of the other characters, they see Edmund as a good guy and that he has done nothing wrong. The way William Shakespeare describes Edmund comes as a surprise to Glouscter and Edgar. He is said to be a good brother and loyal son to Glouscter. Edmund sees himself as what he is doing is correct and acceptable. He thinks he can do anything if he...... middle of paper...... manages to throw him out, they started fighting over Edmund, he had started to having fun with his two daughters, later Albany decided to say that Edmund and Goneril planned to kill him and that he was a traitor. Later, someone in disguise shows up and challenges Edmund to a duel, so while fighting one-on-one in a sword fight, Edmund gets hit in the stomach by the guy's sword. The guy in disguise turns out to be Edgar who ends up killing his brother Edmund. While Edmund is dying, Edgar tells Edmund that his father is dead and that gonaril poisoned Regan and now she is dead. Edmund is happy to discover that both women are dead and that they died for his love and he confesses that he ordered for King Lear and for Cordilia when he says that he manages to save King Lear's life but unfortunately discovers that Cordilia died.
