Essay / Nursing Self-Assessment - 1169
This category addresses how a nurse educator helps the student develop the values and beliefs necessary to fulfill the role of a professional nurse (National League for Nursing, nd) . Similar to the first skill, the nurse educator will need to assess the learner's needs, such as their learning style, identify the needs of diverse student populations, help the learner develop professional goals, ensure cogitative skills, psychomotor and affective learning. place and provide feedback to the learner (Caputi, 2015). To improve this skill, a development plan would include taking a course on managing incivility in the classroom and creating improved interpersonal interactions. Additionally, it would be beneficial to review and work on real case studies. The third skill was also a weak point, missing two of the nine questions. This competency focuses on student assessment in clinical, classroom, and laboratory settings (National League for Nursing, n.d.). In this domain, the two missed questions were for Item Discrimination Ratio (IDR) and Point Biserial Correlation Coefficient (PBCC). Having never been exposed to either of these assessment methods, a course solely on grading techniques would be an appropriate addition to this author's professional development.
