In today's society, people view beauty as a tall, skinny model or a tanned, muscular man. This has brainwashed the world into thinking that to be beautiful, they must look like the images seen in the media. Today's celebrities, famous for their appearance, also encourage the belief that thin is beautiful. These images are omnipresent in the media at the moment and have been for many years. With all these images that we see everywhere, a person feels obliged to look like people from Hollywood and therefore turns to cosmetic and/or weight loss surgery. Although cosmetic surgery can improve one's self-image, it can also have many disadvantages that can lead to many risks and even death. Most people think that cosmetic surgery and bariatric surgery will help them solve all their problems in life. Unfortunately, this doesn't always happen. These surgeries have more negatives than positives and can cause many long-term problems for a patient. The first negative point of cosmetic surgery is pain. Most surgical procedures are aggressive and require multiple pain medications. Recovery time can range from a few weeks to at least 6 months. Depending on the procedure and the patient's ability to tolerate pain. There are many scenarios in which the cosmetic procedure “gone wrong.” This can leave the patient with permanent damage. These surgeries can also be extremely expensive. Aside from minor procedures, most cosmetic surgeries start at four thousand dollars and only go up from there. Most insurance policies do not cover “surgeries for cosmetic purposes,” so the patient must pay the entire payment, usually leaving them in debt. There is always the negative effect of having...... middle of paper ...... start to realize what true beauty is. Real beauty is not a skinny model or a tanned and muscular model. No one in the media looks like the perfect images they portray. Remember, not all good things come from cosmetic surgeries or weight loss. Many risks can arise during and even after the procedure is completed. Before anyone even considers undergoing one of these surgeries, they should ask themselves, “Is it worth all the risks and dangers?” Many people would not have done it if they knew all the dangers that can accompany it. Although appearance is very important to other people, they would undergo these surgical procedures without even worrying about the risks. Appearance is not as important as many people think. The media just makes them think that way. Just think before you act on a decision because it could be a huge decision for some people's lives..
