Essay / A look at the impact of capital punishment in Canada
Capital punishment was the most severe punishment in the Canadian justice system before its abolition in the 1970s. It is still used in many other countries around the world, such as in the United States, China and India because it is believed to reduce the crime rate in their countries. Capital punishment was essentially a form of torturing the suspect, but until he died as a result of his heinous crime. Many believe that capital punishment should be reinstated in Canada, while others are strongly opposed to this suggestion and I think the same. Capital punishment is something no one should endure, no matter how horrible the crime committed may be. It is a cruel and unhealthy punishment, for example, someone who has killed someone has to undergo various horrible and gruesome forms of capital punishment, such as electrocution where they tie you to a chair and 1000 watts of electricity pass through your body or decapitation where the person is attached to a wooden device with a sharp blade and then the blade is released or even submerged where the person is left to starve and dehydrate. When they are sentenced to death, they only expect death and the slowness and/or pain of the procedure. In the olden days of colonial Massachusetts, county courts held witch trials in Salem against people suspected of being witches. When a person suffered a loss, illness or death, they would accuse the alleged person of witchcraft. This person would usually then be found guilty of witchcraft, then convicted and sent to prison or killed. They executed innocent people because they thought they were sorcerers seeking to give birth to them. It’s amazing how the world can repeat itself; capital punishment is... middle of paper...... have you thought about sending them to their death? It's a never-ending cycle of vengeance and violence and we must all suffer through it. In conclusion, I believe that capital punishment should never be reinstated in Canada. This is a cruel and unjust punishment, which violates the rights to life and makes amends in the world and which can lead to the execution of an innocent person without the suspect being harmed. Also, why waste a good thing when the rate of murder and violent crime in Canada has been slowly decreasing over the years due to the abolition of the death penalty? Considering the reasons given above, as well as the fact that the cost of capital punishment is higher and that it is rejected and avoided within many religions such as Catholic and Protestant, I believe that capital punishment is something that shouldn't even be considered. be reinstated because it is unnecessary and unfair.
