Essay / To what extent does globalization impact...
Globalization can both harm and promote the sustainability of people around the world. Many examples, such as ship breaking and outsourcing, can demonstrate that these activities can both harm and help economies, harm and help the environment, and that they can both harm and improve quality overall life of a country. Due to globalization, many countries have gained economic strength, but some countries have lost theirs. In the example of shipbreaking, ships are sold to developing countries to be dismantled and turned into scrap metal for resale. This can help the economies of the countries to which the ships are sold, as it creates jobs in places where work might be scarce. Another example is outsourcing, as jobs are moved to countries where wages are cheaper and regulations are less strict, allowing the company to make a profit. This can also be beneficial for the population of this country; they will have access to a job that they may be able to pay more for or be more secure than the one they already have. But outsourcing is a two-sided issue: When jobs are displaced, the workers who held those jobs will lose them and become unemployed, weakening the economy of the country in which the company was initially based. For example in Salaberry-de-Vallyfield, Quebec, when the two manufacturing plants Hundreds of people lost their jobs and 1,500 people were employed in Honduras and Nicaragua. Because it is cheaper to employ them where there is little regulation and a low minimum wage, one economy has grown while another has declined. Because other countries benefit and others do not, globalization can be proven to have both positive and negative effects on economies. Another point that shows how globalization can have positive and negative effects is the environment. Again... middle of document... it can be demonstrated that globalization has both advantages and disadvantages, but the bad does not outweigh the good, and the good does not outweigh the good wrong ; Globalization is a two-sided coin and organizations, businesses and countries participating in it need to be careful and ensure that what they do is sustainable and can help provide needed resources without harming future generations. Globalization can both harm and promote the sustainability of people around the world. Works Cited “Globalization”. BBC News. BBC and Web. January 13, 2014. .YPSA. “Ship Breakage”.
