  • Essay / My Journey to College - 1216

My Journey to CollegeI first came to college during spring break of my junior year of high school. At the time, I was simply visiting the three major universities in Arizona so I could make an informed decision about where I wanted to attend college. Many events showed me the path to this university and little did I know that these events would come upon me and show me the doors to where I was truly meant to be. I had a little thought in mind: to become a chef or something else in the hospitality field. My mother had heard about NAU's hospitality school and informed me that it was in the top ten. During our visit to NAU, we met with an HRM program administrator just to get information about the program. Some time passed and all the information I had gathered from the three universities continued to come to mind. At first, NAU wasn't my first choice because my boyfriend at the time was in Tucson at the University of Alberta, so naturally I wanted to go to school with him. A little more time passed and my boyfriend and I broke up. I was suddenly lost because I immediately realized that the only reason the University of Alberta was calling on me was because he was there. So I thought again about the career I wanted to pursue. I was pretty sure hospitality was always a field for me, so of course NAU came to mind. I discussed my new thoughts with my mother and we decided that I should apply and wait to see what happened. I sent my application. This was the only application I sent despite all the advice given by my high school teachers and administrators: "Make sure you send as many...... middle of paper ...... my friends and she's always just down the hall. My roommate and I became very close after the first few weeks of not knowing exactly how to act around each other and now we're also best friends. Now, during my second semester at NAU, I have gained a lot of independence, knowledge and friends. I feel like NAU is my second home. I have excellent classes and I think NAU will prepare me very well for my future life and career. The events that led me to NAU were very inspiring and I feel like those events brought me to where I am truly meant to be. be. I was shown the path to NAU and now NAU is showing me the path to my future. I have been through some great journeys to get here and have experienced some great ones while being here and I am sure I will continue to experience many wonderful times in Flagstaff at NAU..
