Today's society will hate or blame a certain person or group simply because the majority believes certain things against them. The villagers all follow the same ritual and actions. It has become clear over the years that no one will ever be different. Tessie's effortless attack when the black dot dictated her life showed how quickly the villagers and even her own family had killed her, simply because of this materialistic black box that somehow , ruled their entire company. Families seemed to be a detrimental part of the story, the way they stood together during the lottery and the way the children ran away to be with their parents showed that being together before the big announcement was somewhat important . But as soon as the black spot was assigned, none of that seemed to matter to the villagers once the victim was chosen. As mentioned in the story, some small rules have been abandoned as part of the lottery, and all the villagers claim to be fully loyal to the lottery, despite the fact that many parts have faded over the years, they have always chose to be loyal to the black box and oblivious to the other relics that were practiced at the time as part of the lottery tradition.
