Essay / Long-term memory - 1595
The ability to consciously verbalize and describe a memory is explicit memory. There are also two types of explicit memory: episodic memory and sematic memory. Episodic memory is based on an episode that happened in your personal life and semantic memory are memories that we have but do not remember how they were acquired. For example, brushing your hair is semantic. I don't remember how or when I learned to brush my hair, but I just know how to do it. An episodic memory is when my friend showed me how to do my hair a certain way for an upcoming special occasion. Together, this explicit memory helps me explain to my daughter the steps to style her hair the same way.
