  • Essay / The debate between criminal nature and criminal nature...

In the middle of the 19th century, there was a debate between criminal nature and criminal education. One group, biologists, believes that the genetic mutations that cause humans to commit crimes cannot be influenced by environmental causes. Another group, the sociologist-biologist, believes that human behavior is due to environmental influences. This essay aims to examine the reasoning of each group and study different types of criminals. The following will list the reason why criminals are by nature. William Sheldon's first theory, he is one of the American psychologists who study the human body throughout its life. Based on his study, he concludes that every human is classified into three human body types: ectomorphs, endomorphs, and mesomorphs. The first two types of human bodies have a lower possibility of committing a crime. However, mesomorphs are described as muscular, gain muscle easily, and have thick skin. In ancient times, William Sheldon used a correlational study to discover that a large portion of convicts were mesomorphs. According to Sheldon, they are more likely to commit crimes or deviant behavior due to their great physical power. An example would be Israel Keyes. He has enormous muscles and is categorically classified as a mesomorph. Unfortunately in the United States, he was a serial killer, a rapist and committed other crimes. Lombroso's second theory, he is an Italian criminologist and founder of the Italian School of positivist criminology. Through his analysis, “he developed a theory of deviance in which a person's bodily makeup indicates whether or not an individual is a “born criminal” (Lombroso, 2000). Before establishing this theory, he made a comparison between soldiers and prisoners and ...... middle of paper ...... with his sister in middle and high school. The first example would be the murder of Cameron Kocher. The incident occurs in northeastern Pennsylvania. One named a nine-year-old boy, Cameron Kocher, was accused of fatally shooting a seven-year-old playmate. Cameron Kocher was playing video games with her playmates at home. After her playmate mentioned that she was better than him at games, she went snowmobiling with other friends. Cameron Kocher wanted to join her but his parents wouldn't allow him to join her. Angrily, Cameron Kocher retrieved his father's rifle, loaded it and pointed it out the window of his house and shot his playmate in the back. After the incident, Cameron Kocher, without any feeling of remorse, however, spoke about it to another playmate. "If you don't think about it, you won't be sad.”
