  • Essay / Renewable energy is the future - 990

The use of fossil fuels such as coal and oil is inefficient, dangerous and otherwise a process known to ultimately fail as an energy source sustainable. Yet there is hope for the future of energy, this new hope takes many forms, but requires a chance to be fully implemented in our daily lives. Energy sources such as solar power, wind power, geothermal energy and hydropower are the key to our future. These energy sources are proven to be sustainable, safe, more reliable and the next innovation. In short, all Americans should transition to renewable energy, resulting in a safer, more efficient world. Fuels like coal and oil, which were once a great innovation in energy creation, are now rapidly disappearing and one day will disappear forever; energy that will not last is often referred to as non-renewable energy. In addition to being doomed to failure and becoming inefficient in the future, fossil fuels are not safe to use and pose several environmental complications. Coal, for example, is “the dirtiest of all fossil fuels.” Coal burning not only produces sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides that contribute to acid rain and snow, but it also generates millions of tons of particulate matter that causes asthma and other respiratory illnesses. Like any use of fossil fuels, it creates huge amounts of carbon dioxide, which contributes to greenhouse gases. Not only are fossil fuels dirty, they are also a security risk and unforgiving to the American pocketbook. (Saini)Furthermore, the major problem with non-renewable energy is that we obtain it largely from foreign countries. According to a recent study by the Energy Information Administration, "58% of our oil comes from outside the country", meaning, as some speculate, that o...... middle of paper .... ..logyDeal, W.
